Begoro, May 4, GNA – Participants at a forum to celebrate the Constitution Week at Begoro, have called on the government to provide the necessary resources and logistics to the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) to enable it operate effectively. They observed that the Commission was constitutionally mandated to undertake all public education campaign exercises to explain government policies and programmes to the public but lack of resources have crippled their work.
They cautioned that the democratic aspirations of the country would be a farce if the NCCE was neglected in the provision of adequate resources for it to performance their duties.
The participants also called on the Police Administration to help arrest the growing indiscipline on the roads.
The Eastern Regional Commander of the MTTU, Mr James Kwame Amoah, said the observation of traffic regulations was not the preserve of drivers and cyclists but it concerned all pedestrians and passengers. He asked passengers to stop boarding “floating” vehicles since such vehicles over-load and cause indiscipline on the roads.
The Begoro District Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. A. K. Asamoah, urged the public to live up to their civic responsibilities to foster national progress.
He expressed concern at the phone-in programmes on FM stations, saying it was proving to be a “disservice to mankind”, since the callers mostly attacked the integrity of political personalities.
