Improved military/police relations commended

Brigadier-General Richard Kwame Opoku-Adusei, General Officer Commanding (GOC), the Northern Command, has expressed satisfaction with the improved relations and collaboration between the military and the Ghana Police Service.

He said successful joint operations by the two security agencies had resulted in considerable reduction in crime and enhanced peace.

“Operation Hot”, “Calm Life” and “Peace-Three-2012” were some of the joint activities they undertook in the Ashanti Region during the year.

Brig-Gen Opoku-Adusei made the commendation at an end of year get-together for West African Security Services Association (WASSA) at the Idris Barracks in Kumasi. He said it was heartwarming that the animosity that often triggered skirmishes between some soldiers and police was now a thing of the past.

Brig-Gen Opoku-Adusei said: “As a result of the collaboration and the subsequent joint operations, the bad blood that was between them is no more, rather, the bond between them had been strengthened.”

He congratulated the soldiers for their comportment, loyalty and dedication to duty before, during and after the December 7 polls, and for ensuring discipline by giving out miscreants who were in their midst.

Brig-Gen Opoku-Adusei asked soldiers to be vigilant and work to protect their individual image and that of the military and the nation.

Lance Corporal Kofi Odame, L/Cpl. Samuel Frimpong and Private Rophena Braimah and two civilian employees, Baba Tindani and Miss Vida Adjei, were honoured for their dedication to work.
