Implement new salary for health workers -GMA

Accra, April 3, GNA – The National Executive Council of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has urged the Government to exercise the necessary political will and determination to implement the negotiated salary levels for health professionals without delay.

The Council has also appealed to the Government to put in place mitigating measures to lessen the impact of the reduced income of its members following a salary restructuring exercise.

This was contained in a communiqu=E9 issued by the Association and signed by Dr Francis Adu-Ababio and Dr Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, President and Secretary of the Council, respectively, at the end of its Second National Executive Council Meeting on Sunday at Manhyia in the Ashanti Region.

The Council said it had recognized Government’s effort to restructure the basic salary of all health professional in accordance with the job description and evaluation exercise for all categories of health workers.

The Association noted with grave concern that for the past three months, doctors and other heath professionals had “received markedly reduced incomes following the salary restructuring exercise”. The Council urged its members to support the GMA Leadership while all efforts were being made to expedite the implementation of the new salary structure.
