Impeach Boateng Gyan- Prez Mahama orders NDC NEC

Credible reports emanating from the top echelon of the presidency suggest that, President John Dramani Mahama has urged the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to offer Yaw Boateng Gyan the option of renouncing his position or initiate moves to impeach him.

Deep throat sources say the President is highly upset about the development and recognizes that if the issue is not properly handled, it could derail the electoral fortunes of the party in the impending elections.

Though it is widely believed that President Mahama’s advice has created sharp divisions among the NEC members, the conservatives fronting for Mr. Boateng Gyan’s immediate removal are in the majority.

“President Mahama has humbly advised the party’s hierarchy to offer Mr. Boateng Gyan the option to resign or consider impeaching him, because he thinks that the only way the party could restore its dignity is to push Mr. Boateng Gyan out from the executive, and he is bent on doing that”, a confidant of the President said in a private conversation.

However, surreptitious visits to the headquarters of the party in Accra on Thursday revealed deep seated and general apathy towards work, as staff members ponder over the next line of action to take against the embattled national organizer.

It would be recalled that a tape recording purported to have the voices of Mr. Yaw Boateng Gyan, and some unidentified persons stirred controversy on the political landscape few weeks ago.

The 35-minute tape was suspected to have been recorded in a meeting with some unidentified party thugs, and the national organizer discussing plots to recruit them into a Special Force of the Ghana Armed Forces, to infiltrate the ranks of some political parties.

The plan, according to the voices, was to find information about the strategies of the NDP and its likely impact on the fortunes of the NDC in the December elections.

It also made reference to issuing the operatives with National Security identification cards but was not sure about the support from National Security, since in the past such provisions had been abused by those the party recruited for a similar exercise.
