IMF Director for Africa visits president

President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday held discussion with Mr Abbas Miracor, IMF Executive Director for Africa, behind closed doors at the Castle, Osu.

Mr Joseph Henry Mensah, Senior Minister and Chairman of the Economic Management, team told newsmen that they had fruitful discussions which reviewed the economy and options to solve some of the socio-economic problems.

Mr. Miracor said the major concerns of President Kufuor during the discussions were how to provide enough resources in the health and education sectors, poverty alleviation, improvement in the per capita income and acceleration in the country’s economic growth.

He said he was not aware that government had negotiated for any new loans when it opted for the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative because under the Initiative, government was not servicing loans.
