Imam calls for peace and unity in Ghana

Tamale(N/R), Dec. 31, GNA – Sheik Isshak Tanko, Chief Imam of Ambariya Mosque in Tamale has called on people in the northern region to use the Eid-Ul-Adha celebration to forgive one another and plan for progress and development in unity. He said Eid-Ul-Ahda was a month of sharing and could not be made meaningful without peace and forgiveness to foster good brotherliness for prosperity and development.

Sheik Tanko made the call when addressing a large congregation of Alsuna Muslim sect in Tamale on Sunday to mark this year’s celebration of Eid-Ul-Adha. He said as Allah was prepared to forgive mankind, human beings too should not hesitate to forgive their fellow brethren to ensure that peace, understanding and unity prevailed in the world. Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister reiterated the call on Muslims to be wary of self-seeking politicians who would like to divide them to score political gains because unity was key to development. He cut the sod for work to begin on a three billion cedi two-storey classroom block for the establishment of Ambariya English/Islamic Secondary School located in Sakasaka, a suburb of Tamale. The project is being funded from the GETFUND Special Investment Returns Funds (SIRF) earmarked for educational infrastructure development.

Alhaji Idris expressed President John Agyekum Kufuor’s appreciation for the prevailing peace in the region, adding “If there is peace such development projects under the GETFUND would be provided to improve on education in the three northern regions.” He called on the people to be law-abiding and seek amicable means of resolving issues to end conflicts in the region.
