I’m serious about galamsey fight – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said he will not allow illegal mining to destroy the country’s water bodies and forest reserves.

Speaking to the Ghanaian community in Germany, he said illegal mining, popularly known as ‘galamsey’ will devour Ghanaians if it is not halted.

“It will devour all of us, therefore I have called for a halt to it,” Akufo-Addo stated, adding he is obvious of the fact that a lot of the youth are into it as a result of unemployment.

According to him, his government is looking and insisting on other alternative methods of livelihood for those involved in the galamsey act.

The president said he is keen on stopping the menace and Ghanaians must take him by his words.

“I am very lucky to have first class team of people who are working with me with all seriousness and commitment for one purpose,” President Akufo-Addo stated ahead of the G-20 Summit in Germany.
