The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana Prof. Ernest Aryeetey has categorically stated he has no intention to lobby for an extension of his tenure which ends this year.
According to him, he had paid his dues as far as transforming the university was concerned and is ready for retirement.
“I’m not ready for an extension of my tenure, I’m ready to go home,” the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology trained leader told Bola Ray on Starr Chat, Wednesday.
“I’m leaving a happy man… when it comes to legacy, I’ll always leave it to those observing to judge,” he said when asked what legacy he was leaving at Legon.
Prof. Aryeetey, who helped transform the nation’s premier university to become the No. 1 in West Africa, said he faced stiff opposition when he had the appointment, but said he kept his focus because “the people didn’t know” what he was bringing on board.
He denied rumours that he had a 3rd Class, adding “I wouldn’t have become a Vice Chancellor.”
