I’m not interested in Charlotte Osei’s post – IDEG Boss

The Executive Director of the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG), Dr. Emmanuel Akwartey has said, he is not interested in becoming chairperson for the Electoral Commission (EC) despite calls for the embattled chairperson Madam Charlotte Osei to step aside.

“What you should know is that there are very good Ghanaians out there with the competency to manage the institution with distress”, the Executive Director said.

IDEG in a press statement admonished the embattled chairperson of EC, Madam Charlotte Osei accused of financial malfeasance to step aside for investigations to be carried into those allegations against her and those of her two immediate deputies.

“I am not interested in becoming Chairperson even if Madam Charlotte Osei is asked to step aside or removed if culpable of the charges leveled against her after investigations”, he said.

“What I want to see is the institution comes back to stability and regain it lost confidence”, he explained on Kumasi-based Ultimate FM morning show.

“We should think outside the box to ensure all the allegations made against each commissioner is substantiated”, he pointed out.

Dr. Emmanuel Akwartey was tipped to have been appointed to succeed the immediate past chairman of the Commission, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Djan by then President John Mahama.
