I’m not gay; it’s all propaganda – Afoko cries out

Chairman aspirant of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Paul Afoko, has described as propaganda, rumours that he is gay.

Mr Afoko, who is seeking to oust incumbent chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, told the XYZ News on Thursday that the homosexual rumour is part of a grand smear campaign against him.

“…They started off by saying I was a cocaine dealer who had been jailed in England. The Interpol came out to say that that was not true. That it was a lie. They’ve moved it on. At one point they said I was a homosexual. I had no need to even defend myself. I just laughed it off. I’m a married man; I have children,” Afoko decried.

The businessman has been enmeshed in a series of controversies with the leadership of the party since he declared his intention to run for the chairman slot.

On Wednesday a letter he wrote to the party’s National Election Committee seeking clarity on the rules and procedures for voting at Saturday’s annual delegates’ conference scheduled for the Northern regional capital, Tamale, sparked another wave of controversy.

Mr Afoko says all the rumours, allegations and accusations made against him are aimed at frittering away his chances of winning the chairmanship slot.
