Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana’s women’s national team amid reports linking him with a potential big-money move elsewhere.
The Swedish coach, who took charge in February 2025, has quickly endeared himself to Ghanaian fans after steering the Queens to a third-place finish at the last Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and securing qualification for the 2026 edition with a dominant 7–0 aggregate victory over Egypt.
Despite speculation about lucrative offers from other federations, Björkegren has made it clear that his focus remains firmly on Ghana’s progress.
“No, I will not leave when a bigger offer comes,” he told reporters. “I had 14 other offers when I signed for Ghana, and I didn’t tell the reason because I want to be here in Ghana.
I think I can help the girls make a little bit of a difference, and together we are on the way to something really good. We already showed that in the summer. I am here to stay with the girls.”
The 43-year-old tactician replaced Nora Häuptle, who departed to coach Zambia, and has since built a side praised for its attacking flair and renewed confidence.
Under his guidance, Ghana’s women have rediscovered their spark, scoring freely and regaining belief after years of inconsistency.
Next up for Björkegren’s team is a high-profile international friendly against England’s Lionesses on December 2, 2025, a test that will offer a glimpse of how far the Black Queens have come under his leadership.
As excitement builds for the next WAFCON, Björkegren’s vow to stay has been warmly received by Ghanaian supporters, many of whom see him as the man to restore the Queens to continental glory.
