The failure of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso North, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, to win the recent primaries organised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) comes as good news to financial analyst Sydney Casely-Hayford.
The Minister of Youth and Sports polled 1,101 votes, while Alhaji Yusuf Jajah polled 1,636, with Mr Abdul Jalil getting 199; Ali Dauda, 338; and Alhaji Amin Lamptey managing 56 in the elections organised by the governing National Democratic Congress to select parliamentary candidates for the 2016 general elections.
Mr Casely-Hayford believes the minister has failed to achieve anything significant in all the portfolios that he has held in government.
“I’m saying categorically that after moving around, so far I don’t know what Mustapha can say, hand on his heart, that this is something I created, this is something that I have left, and this is a legacy that I am leaving for people to appreciate. So if he is going out of parliament it doesn’t really matter. I am happy he is leaving because I don’t want a continuous way of lackadaisical approach to what we are trying to do”.
Mr Casely-Hayford, who expressed the sentiment on Citi FM’s ‘The Big Issue’ on Saturday November 28, also noted that: “I want the young ones to come and be dedicated to what they are doing, pick up the mantle, and try and establish a record of success that they can leave parliament after three or four sittings”.
