I’m a dropout – Akua Donkor’s vice-presidential nominee

The vice-presidential nominee of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Patricia Asante, has revealed that she could not complete her basic education, but says being a dropout will not hinder her from delivering as a future vice president of Ghana.

On Monday, October 3, the presidential nominee of the GFP, Akua Donkor, named Mrs Asante as her running mate for the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Ms Donkor told the media after the announcement that Mrs Asante was selected because she has what it takes to do a good job as well as act in her stead if she is indisposed.

Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday, 4 October, Mrs Asante, 32, a farmer, said: “I could not complete my JSS (Junior Secondary School) education, but that will not prevent me from contributing the rich ideas I have to build the nation.”

She added: “Akua Donkor has given opportunity to those of us who are not educated to also have a say in Ghanaian politics and governance. The fact that I cannot read and write doesn’t mean I cannot contribute any ideas. People are in parliament today but do not contribute to discussions on the floor because they cannot speak English and so I will deliver.”
