Kumasi, Oct. 27, GNA – The International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) has presented a cheque for 200 million cedis to three Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) involved in the elimination of child labour to implement their programmes.
The beneficiary NGOs were International Needs which received 100 million cedis, RAISE, 61 million cedis and the Youth Development Foundation (YDF), which received 40 million cedis.
The cheques were presented at the opening of a two-day capacity building workshop for child labour elimination implementing agencies in Kumasi on Wednesday.
Mr Emmanuel Otoo, ILO/IPEC Country Co-ordinator, said the funds would enable the beneficiary NGOs to withdraw and reintegrate 2,000 children in unacceptable labour in the country.
He said the money was meant for the children and urged the beneficiaries to use them for the intended purpose.
Mr Otoo advised them to reorganise their roles and focus their attention on total elimination of child labour in Ghana.
Mr Stephen Ofosu Darfour, Assistant Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of the Ghana National Commission on Children (GNCC), called for concerted efforts to eliminate child labour from the Ghanaian society.
