ILO builds capacity of Small Business Association in Gomoa West

Apam (C/R), Aug 12, GNA – The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has organised a three-day workshop for Small Business Association (SBA) in the Gomoa West District to build the capacity of their staff to promote efficiency.

The workshop formed part of 40,000 dollars made available to the District by ILO for capacity building under the Decent Work Project.

The 50 participants were taken through financial management, records keeping and customer care among others.

Addressing the closing session of the Workshop at Apam, Mr Mohammed Shiraz Musah, the Deputy District Coordinator, commended ILO for the importance it attached to the development of Small Business Associations.

He said SBAs held the key to the economy of District, Municipal and Metropolitan assemblies and any effort to promote their development would reflect in the development of the district.

Mr Musah expressed gratitude to the ILO for complementing the government in job creation and development.

He advised the participants to put into practice what they had been taught at the workshop to enhance the growth of their businesses.

Mr Musah appealed to the Sub-Committee on Production and Gainful Employment (SPGE) of the ILO Decent Work Project to monitor activities of people who had benefited from such workshops to keep them on their toes.

He said the Assembly would also from time to time visit their places of business to see whether they were doing what they had been taught.

Mr Anthony Adu-Baffour of Genad Consult and Mr Kwamena Amoasi-Andoh of Jenad Consult both consultants to the ILO Decent Work Project facilitated at the workshop.

Mr Amoasi-Andoh appealed to leaders of the SBAs to ensure that their businesses were transformed to enhance their standard of living and those of their apprentices.
