Winneba, Aug. 23, GNA – The International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly (AESDA) have jointly raised 260 million cedis for the implementation of the Ghana Decent Work Pilot Project (GDWPP) in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya and Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam districts.
The Presiding Member for the Awutu-Effutu-Senya Assembly, Mr Kwesi Esseku, who said this in an interview with the GNA in Winneba on Friday, said a sub-committee has been formed to assist in the implementation of the project.
According to Mr Esseku, one billion cedis were required for the project, which was aimed at promoting small-scale businesses to create jobs and reduce poverty in the two districts. He said a two-day skill-acquisition workshop would be organised in Winneba for persons to be selected from business association and enterprises. They would be taught how to use funds judiciously when the project takes off.
Mr Esseku said a number of enterprises and association have been registered for the workshop adding that loans would be given to participants who would be selected after the training. He said beneficiaries would have to invest in fishing and fish processing, poultry production, gari processing, vocational and technical training, transport among others to enable them earn additional income to improve their standard of living. Mr Esseku praised Mr K. Amoashie Andoh, ILO representative on the Pilot Project in Ghana, for working hard to ensure that project start as scheduled.
