Illiteracy a major cause of crime- Police

Nkwanta (Ash), April 5, GNA- Chief Inspector Gilbert Kingsley Kankam of the Eastern Regional Police Command, has observed that lack of formal education was one major cause of heinous crimes such as armed robbery in the country.

He has therefore asked parents to take the education of their children seriously.

Chief Supt Kankam was speaking at a civic education forum organised by National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for the chiefs and people of Nkwanta near Juaso in the Ashanti Region. He drew attention to the importance of proper parenting to protect children from falling into bad company and becoming social misfits. Mr Emmanuel Victor Boadu, a Senior Field Officer of the NCCE, asked the people to respect the rights, freedom and legitimate interests of each other.

He also asked them to have copies of the Constitution and study it thoroughly in order to defend it against all forms of abuse. Mr Abass Mubarak, the Assembly Member, asked the people to help maintain peace and stability in the area.
