Illegal lotto operators fined 21 million cedis

Kumasi, Nov.3, GNA – A Kumasi Circuit court on Tuesday fined seven people 21 million cedis on their own plea for operating illegal lotto within the Kumasi metropolis.

Each of the accused persons fined three million cedis would serve 18 months imprisonment in default.

They were Peter Eshun, Nana Antwi, Yaw Acheampong, Solomon Bempah, George Okeji, Collins Owusu and Fred Asare.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Regina Addo-Yobo told the court presided over by Mr Ernest Yao Obimpeh that the Management of the Asare Original Pay, a private lotto operating agency had information about some people operating illegal lotto with numbers by the agency. She said a task force comprising police personnel and the management was detailed to some suburbs of the metropolis and the accused persons were arrested during the operation. ASP Addo-Yobo said after investigations they were charged with the offence.
