Illegal gold miner jailed for defilement

Tarkwa, May 19, GNA – An illegal gold miner, Kwabena Obeng, 39, has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling an eight- year-old girl by the Tarkwa circuit court. He pleaded guilty.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court that on February 7 the victim, who attends school at Damang, returned home and complained of stomach pain and was given some medication. But two days later when the victim was sleeping, the complainant found that she was bleeding from her vagina and had soiled the bed sheet. Inspector Amponsah said the victim was sent to the hospital the next day for treatment and when she was examined it was found out that she had been defiled.

He said when the victim was questioned, she mentioned the convict who defiled her when she visited her grand mother at her store which shares the same veranda with the convict’s room. The victim said the convict took her to her grandmother’s store when she left the store and defiled her.
