Illegal fishing activities must be halted

Gorm-Ada, Dec 11, GNA – Nene George Teye Amedallor 111, the Dangme East District Chief Fisherman, has expressed concern about illegal fishing activities going on along some coastal areas of the country. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Gorm-Ada, Nene Amedallor said the earlier the Ministry of Food and Agriculture flushed out the illegal fisher folks from the system, the better it would be for the fishing industry.

He enumerated the illegal fishing activities to include the use of light at night in fish harvesting, poisoning river bodies with chemicals and the use of unapproved nets that destroy fingerlings. Nene Amedallor appealed to the Ministry to come out with stringent measures that would halt the nefarious fishing activities in order for sanity to prevail in the fishing industry.
