The size of the National Theatre and the Accra International Conference Centre has been the concern of most event planners in the country for some years now.
To some, the auditoriums of the two centres are very small and often take only a few audience.
One of such event planners is the General Manager of Touchpoint Magna Carta, Mr. Clarence Amoatey who described the two centres as “stagnant statues”.
Asked what he would do if given the opportunity to improve event management and planning in Ghana, Mr. Amoatey told Kasapa fm’s Leticia Ohene-Asiedu that, he would pull down the National Theatre and Conference Centre and build larger auditoriums that are multipurpose auditoriums.
He said with only a thousand chairs in the conference center, event planners are mostly forced to bring in extra chairs for their audience for big events.
He indicated that one major factor that has resulted in poor event management and planning in Ghana, is the two weeks short course on event management and planning organized in some tertiary institutions.
Mr. Amoatey said in other countries students are taught event management to the PhD level and as such is seen as serious business.
Clarence Amoatey was adjudged the most outstanding personality in Event Management and Planning at the Forty under 40 Awards held in September this year.
