President John Mahama has promised to forever honour the memory of late President John Mills.
The President said this at a ceremony at the Asomdwee Park on Wednesday to mark the 100 days celebrations of the death of the late leader.
Even though it’s been over 130 days since President Mills died, government officially held the ceremony this morning in his honour.
President Mills died on Tuesday, July 24 at the 37 Military Hospital after being taken ill.
Speaking at the ceremony President Mahama stated that the late leader’s legacy will forever live on.
He said: “We thank God for giving him to us, for the period of time that he stayed with us. All of us associated with him as a father, uncle, brother, husband and the family miss him very much. As an academic, his students and faculty members miss him very much. As the head of the tax agency, I am sure the former staffs miss him very much.”
“But as a politician, the whole nation Ghana misses him. We know and acknowledge the attributes he brought into leadership in this country. A man of humility, a man of peace, a man of tolerance, a man of civility in speech and politeness,” he added.
The President also urged the Electoral Commission and the security agencies to ensure smooth and peaceful elections.
“Our responsibilities have been fully discharged to the Electoral Commission in terms of resources and I hope that the Electoral Commission will rise to the occasion under some of the glitches that happened yesterday in the special voting exercise will not characterize the election day proper.”
According to him, such problems on Friday could cause a major problem and therefore admonished the Electoral Commission to ensure that everything is in place and also called on the security services to work hard in discharging their duties.
The ceremony was attended by the wife of the late President, Dr. Mrs. Naadu Mills, some family members, government officials, Ministers of state and Presidential staffers.
