I’ll attend NPP’s campaign launch too – Irbard

Security analyst Irbard Ibrahim has said he will be attending the 2016 campaign launch of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), just as he has done for the governing National Democratic Congress in Cape Coast on Sunday August 14.

Scores of dignitaries and members of the NDC, including former President Jerry John Rawlings and President John Mahama, have attended the occasion in the Central regional capital.

Speaking in an interview with Class FM’s Emefa Apawu from the stadium, Mr Ibrahim said: “As peace ambassador, certainly I can’t be partisan … and one of my terms of reference is to monitor the rhetoric of political leaders so that I can report to the international community and, therefore, for a momentous occasion like this, where a party unveils its campaign to the nation, I need to come and take a listen to what they have. So, fundamentally, I am here because the NDC is launching its campaign first; if the NPP did, I would have done it before coming here.”

He added: “I am not here to throw my weight behind the NDC. As peace ambassador, I can’t pick sides, and, therefore, from here, when the NPP also launches its campaign, I am going to be there so that I can appreciate those political issues on the ground and be able to duly communicate to the Ghanaian electorate in a dispassionate, mutual, and non-partisan way as peace ambassador.”
