THE FORMER Minister for the Interior and Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhaji Malik Alhassan Yakubu, has made it known that he would accept to serve the nation in any capacity, if he is re-appointed by President Kufuor.
Hon. Malik explained that he resigned because of the Dagbon crisis and if his innocence is established he would not refuse any position if he is re-appointed by the president.
“I am not post-conscious and there has been enough evidence to attest to this fact, but I think at any point in time one should be prepared to serve one’s nation if one is offered the opportunity to do so,” the Yendi legislator stated in an interview with Joy FM, AN Accra based private radio station on Monday.
The former Interior minister who had instituted legal action against certain people who accused him of being among those who masterminded the carnage in Yendi last year, hinted that he may discontinue the court action as a reconciliatory gesture, if only the defendants come forward to render an unqualified apology to him.
According to the MP, he had absented himself from Yendi since the crisis in March last year. He said he had taken this decision because while the Justice Wuaku Commission was probing into the matter other intelligent agencies were also going into the matter and that visiting Yendi could have led to anything else.
When quizzed on how he has been working as an MP after failing to visit his constituency for a year, the former minister was quick to state that his absence from Yendi had not affected the discharge of his duties as a legislator.
He said he is abreast with current events at his constituency and has been responding favourbly to the demands of the constituents.
“I have initiated several development projects including boreholes, schools, among other things and I see to the proper utilization of my share of the Common Fund,” Hon. Malik said.
It will be recalled that in the aftermath of the Yendi crisis, there were calls for the resignation of some top government officials including Hon. Malik for their alleged involvement in the crisis.
The then minister subsequently resigned but the Wuaku Commission, after its sitting on the matter at Sunyani, exonerated him in its report.
Over to you Mr. President; Malik is ready to serve the nation now!
