IGP’s bodyguard shoots man to death at Alajo

A bodyguard of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), John Kudalor has reportedly shot and killed a man at Alajo in Accra.

Sergeant Karim Mohammed, is said to have shot the man who is suspected to be a thief in self defence, after the latter attacked him with an offensive weapon.

In an interview, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur narrated that the police officer had his car burgled at his residence during which parts of the car was stolen and subsequently had the stolen parts fixed.

Few days after, he laid surveillance in the night and saw an unidentified man approaching his car in the dark and trying to force the car doors open. He added that Sergeant Karim Mohammed accosted the armed deceased who turned on him and tried to attack him with the implement.

Supt. Arthur noted that life threatening situation the police officer was left with no option than to shoot the deceased in self defence which unfortunately led to the death of the suspected thief.

He added that the police will not shield Sergeant Karim Mohammed simply because he’s the bodyguard of the IGP even though initial investigation has established that his action was in self defence.

“He was arrested after the incident but currently he’s on bail. We have started investigating the case and we want to assure all that we’ll handle the matter fairly” Supt. Cephas Arthur noted.
