Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), on Wednesday, said the Police Administration will ensure that the Ghana Police Marine Unit obtains the necessary logistics to enable the unit to discharge its duties efficiently and effectively.
He was speaking during a visit to the Western Regional Headquarters of the Ghana Police Marine Unit, as part of his two-day duty tour of the region in Takoradi.
Mr. Alhassan said the Police Administration will especially assist the marine unit with spare parts for its patrol boats, to make it possible for the unit to check criminal activities at sea.
He said, “everything would be done to strengthen the unit because it is very strategic.”
Mr. Alhassan said the unit as a whole, has performed satisfactorily, and it is making the desired impact.
He further commended the unit for its initiative in meeting challenges, despite constraints, and urged personnel of the unit to continue to work hard for the unit to remain “relevant.”
Mr. Alhassan asked the unit to collaborate with the Ghana Navy, the Fisheries Commission, and other partners, in carrying out its mandate.
Chief Superintendent Samuel Owusu Berko, Director of the Regional Marine Unit, had earlier briefed the IGP about the logistic problems of the unit.
