Tamale, Nov. 10, GNA – The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Nana Owusu Nsiah, has urged residents of Tamale to tolerate one another to ensure peace in the Metropolis, especially during this electioneering year.
He told them that nobody could make Tamale a peaceful place except they themselves, saying: “Posterity will not forgive us if we fail to prepare a peaceful ground for the youth to develop and progress.” Nana Nsiah was speaking at a meeting with executives of political parties, chiefs, youth leaders, the clergy and Muslim leaders in Tamale on Monday to fashion out plans to bring peace to the area.
He advised the youth to be wary of persons who would want to misdirect their energies into causing mayhem saying the possessing and usage of firearms had been banned in most parts of the Northern Region but the indiscriminate use of firearms were reported daily.
“If we resort to the use of firearms at the least opportunity, we are directly initiating conflict and saying ‘good-bye’ to peace,” he said adding, “This region needs peace to progress”.
He assured Ghanaians that he was running an open administration and called for suggestions from the public to make the operations of the Police Service more effective and efficient.
“All of us have a duty and responsibility to make Ghana a peaceful country and if we fail in this, posterity will never forgive us,” the IGP added.
