IGP Launches New Police Hospital Ward Project to Boost Care for Officers and Retirees

Ghana’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has broken ground for the construction of a new ward complex at the Police Hospital in Accra, aimed at improving healthcare for officers, retirees, and their families.

The sod-cutting ceremony, held on Monday 11 August 2025, brought together members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and other senior officers. The IGP said the idea for the facility was inspired by a personal visit to a colleague on admission, which highlighted the need for more comfortable and well-equipped patient accommodation.

“This project is for the entire police family, active personnel, retirees, and their loved ones,” Mr Yohuno said. “It will provide a space that promotes comfort, healing, and dignity, while also serving the general public.”

He noted that the Police Administration is using its available resources to begin the project but called on individuals, corporate bodies, and organisations to support its completion. The new ward complex will prioritise the needs of retirees, acknowledging the health challenges many face after years of service.

The IGP expressed confidence that once completed, the facility will significantly enhance the well-being and longevity of officers and their families, urging all Ghanaians to contribute towards making it a reality.
