IGP Interdicts Cop For Rape

The Police Administration has ordered the immediate interdiction of Constable H. K. Kutorglo of the Police Mobile Force in Kumasi for allegedly raping a 22-year-old hairdresser. A source told newsmen that the victim came from Tema about a month ago to visit a friend residing at Patase, a suburb of Kumasi. Last Thursday, she went to Dakwaduom in Kumasi and was standing by the roadside at about 10.30 pm for a vehicle back to Patase when the suspect, then in uniform, pulled up in a pick-up truck.

He alighted from the pick-up and told the girl that she was under arrest. When she asked of her offence, the suspect replied that she would get to know at the police station. He forced her into the vehicle under the pretext of sending her to the Depot Police Station at Patase, but took her to his room at the Police Depot barracks where he raped her.

After the act, the girl lodged a complaint with Inspector D.Y. Afriyie of the Police Motor Traffic Unit who was on night patrol duties at Santasi roundabout. Inspector Afriyie then took the victim to the Mobile Force where a formal report was made and a medical form issued to her for medical examination.
