IGP charges community policing unit to remain resolute

The Inspector General of Police [IGP] David Asante-Apeatu has encouraged personnel of the Community Policing Unit to remain resolute in the discharge of their constitutional mandate to protect lives and properties.

At an interaction with the unit at Tesano in Accra on Wednesday, June 19, the IGP said the top hierarchy of the Service shares the pain that officers of the Unit are enduring following the shooting incident leading to the death of Constable Daniel Owusu and injury to Constable Gibrill Alhassan, their colleagues.

The encouragement of the IGP came in the wake of last Thursday’s shooting incident by two armed robbers with the police in broad day light on the Abeka Lapaz section of the NI highway in Accra, killing one policeman and seriously injuring another, before commandeering a private vehicle to escape.

Fifteen persons are in police custody for their alleged involvement in the shooting incident. The arrested persons are made up of six Nigerians and eight Ghanaians including a 27-year old female.
