Ignore JJ Rawlings- Lecturer

A Political Science Lecturer, Amidu Dramani, has advised the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to hold on to possible plans to punish former President J.J Rawlings following his endorsement of his wife at the National Democratic Party (NDP) congress.

The National Executive Committee of the governing party is expected to meet this week to pronounce appropriate sanctions against the founder of the party.

Speaking on Accra based radio station; Mr. Dramani stated that the NDC should concentrate on its campaign and ignore the former President.

“Whether we like it or not, in Ghanaian politics, especially in the NDC, he commands some followers and election is a game of numbers and losing just one person is very important and in this case, it is so obvious that if they lose Rawlings, they will not lose Rawlings alone but his followers as well,” he explained.

He said: “They should pay little attention to some of these comments in relation to NDP, especially around this time so that after the election, they may want to sit down with him [President Rawlings] and discuss whatever there is to be discussed. Not in this particular period; it will not pay for the NDC.”

Mr. Dramani, however, stated that the December election is a highly competitive one and the two major parties in the country “cannot afford to lose even one person.”
