Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, has described the planned presidential debate being organised by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) as unconstitutional and discriminatory.
He has therefore asked the IEA to reverse the decision.
He said the exclusion of some political parties in the debates denies such parties from presenting their ideologies to the populace contrary to the constitutional demand of giving fair opportunities to all.
Mr Iddrisu was addressing the West Africa Security Services Association (WASSA) in Tamale on Friday organised by the Northern Regional Police Command to socialise and make merry over the year.
The minister indicated that irrespective of the size of any political party in the country, it should be given the chance to share its ideology to the public for them to make informed decisions.
Mr Iddrisu used the occasion to announce that government is reviewing a new pension scheme for the security agencies to have uniform pension scheme.
He urged the Ghana Prison Service to remain calm since their request on pension is being addressed.
He commended the police for sustaining peace in the region but urged them to be very vigilant at the borders where many vehicles experience traffic leading to needless accidents.
Mr Iddrisu called on the people of the region to give peace the chance and consider finding solutions to poverty and diseases which are their common enemy.
Mr Abdallah Abubakari, Regional Minister said the security forces of the country have been the major pillars of peace the country is currently enjoying and urged them to continue maintaining law and order.
He urged them to demonstrate high sense of alacrity to sustain the peace the country is enjoying during and after the November polls.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) E. J. Akrofi-Oyirifi, Deputy Regional Police Commander, assured the public that the police are prepared to ensure incident free polls come November.
“The Command has already inaugurated the Regional Elections Task Force,” he said.
He said the police would engage all political parties and other stakeholders in series of meetings on election related issues all in attempt to sustain peace and credible elections and appealed to all political parties to avail themselves.
ACP Akrofi-Oyirifi said the Command hsd been fighting crime at all levels thus reducing the rate.
He appealed to the public to collaborate with the police in drastically reducing crime in the country.
