IDEG to launch “My African Union, My Voice” campaign

On Friday, March 13, 2015, the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (MFARI) will launch a campaign on “My African Union, My Voice”. The event will take place at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra at 9:30am.

The campaign forms part of the activities of the “State of The Union” (SoTU) – a Pan African Civil Society Organisations project which is currently being implemented in ten African countries including Ghana.

The aim is to raise public awareness of the objectives of the African Union and promote active citizen participation in the implementation of its protocols, conventions and policy decisions at the level of the 54 Member-States of the Union.

The campaign in Ghana would be launched by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, assisted by a team of renowned national musicians led by Okyeame Kwame.

Among the dignitaries invited to this event are former President John Agyekum Kufuor, one of the founding Presidents of the AU and the chairman of the AU at the 9th AU Summit held in Accra in July 2007. Also invited are members of the African Diplomatic Corp and Ghanaians from all walks of life.

The “State of The Union” (SoTU) project was formed in 2009 with 10 African civil Society organisations from Algeria, Ethiopia, Egypt, Rwanda, Cameroun, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa committed to monitoring the conduct of member states of the AU and holding them accountable for “the ratification and implementation of African Union decisions. IDEG is a founding member of SoTU and hosts the secretariat in Ghana.
