IDEG to host citizens’ public forum on election violence

Accra, Nov. 25, GNA – The Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) is to host a public forum on the need for peace during the up coming elections, a press statement issued by the IDEG on Tuesday in Accra said.

The statement signed by the Head of Research Information, Professor Kwame Ninsin, said the forum, which would be held on November 26, was intended to provide the citizenry with the platform to deliberate on the consequences of electoral fraud and rioting. The statement said: “In the run-up to the polls, there have been flashes of election-related violence as well as queries from some political parties and citizens about the integrity and impartiality of the Electoral Commission.”

It said the public forum was providing the Ghanaian public some insight into experience from other African countries like Nigeria and Kenya.

It urged all political leaders, their followers and all stakeholders to take necessary actions to keep the peace before, during and after the election. 25 Nov. 08
