The Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) will hold a seminar in Parliament on Ghana’s Political and Administrative Transitions of Government on Wednesday, July 18.
The forum is to share experience of how Parliament has performed in previous political and administrative power transitions.
A statement issued in Accra by Dr Emmanuel Akwetey, Executive Director of IDEG, said since 1992, Ghana’s Electoral Commission had successfully organised five multi-party elections with steady improvement in credibility and efficiency.
It said out of this, two elections that resulted in a change of government exposed weakness in the process of transiting from a government to another.
The statement said it showed that the country had no institution that ensured the smooth transfer of Executive and Administrative power if an election should result in change of government.
It noted that the seminar would help draw lessons to improve upon future transition processes.
Participants for the seminar would include institutions like Parliament, Ministries, Department and Agencies, political parties, traditional authorities, development partners, academia and the private sector.**
