I’d support Akufo-Addo if… – Yaw Boateng Gyan

The world would not come crushing down on Yaw Boateng Gyan should Nana Akufo-Addo be declared as president of the republic of Ghana by the Supreme Court.

In an interview with OKAY FM, the National Organizer for the National Democratic Congress revealed that he would wholeheartedly welcome Nana Akufo-Addo and regard him as his president, should the Supreme Court declare him as the winner of last year’s election.

His comments were aimed at toppling the strings of warnings and harsh comments he received from the Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) for alleging that he is preparing the grounds for violence.

On 18th July, 2013, Mr. Boateng Gyan emphatically stated that he believes the current election petition before the Supreme Court would only rake in electoral reforms and not a change in government.

In view of the convictions expressed by Mr. Boateng Gyan, Mr. David Asante believes it is contemptuous. As spokesperson for the LMVCA, Mr. Asante claims Mr. Boateng-Gyan’s comment has the potency to fuel a degree of apprehension in the country if not dealt with.

“He has given a ruling, and if his supporters expect nothing but a win for the NDC, this can spark violence”, he said.

But Mr. Boateng Gyan reemphasized that all the parties involved in the election petition believe they would emerge victors after the case has been finalized. “It is predictable to tell that everyone who goes to court believes the ruling would favour him. The NPP believe they would win; likewise the NDC and the Electoral Commission”, he said.
