ICT to boost teaching and learning

Accra, Nov. 25, GNA – Reverend Emmanuel Kingsley Dadebo, Co-ordinator of Information, Communication and Technology(ICT) programme at the Ministry of Education, on Wednesday urged stakeholders in education to adopt the appropriate technological methods to enhance teaching and learning through ICT.

“We need to expand access to ICT at all levels of education but there is the need to ensure the appropriate methodology to enable the country achieve its objectives,” he said. Rev. Dadebo made the call when launching the “Yes, I Can Own A Personal Computer”, initiative being organised by the Management of Sadatech Company dealers in ICT products in collaboration with the Ministries of Communication and Education.

Other collaborating bodies are the Ghana Education Service, Intel Corporation Education Initiative, Channel IT, Dell Computers, Ghana Leasing Company and Consumer Finance Company.

Under the initiative, teachers, health professionals, civil servants, employees of corporate entities and other salaried workers could purchase stationery, Laptop and Desktop computers through monthly deductions of 46 Ghana cedis payable within six to 24 months. Rev. Dadebo said it was only through ICT that teachers, lecturers and other supporting staff in the country’s educational institutions could be motivated to improve on their performance.

He said through ICT, images could be used in teaching and learning to facilitate the retentive memory of students, teachers and workers. Mr. Abdul-Rauf Anwar Sadat, Chief Executive Officer of Sadatech Company said the initiative was to assist people in Africa to acquire computers, which many thought was a luxury.

“The management of Sadatech would embark on another phase of the initiative in collaboration with authorities of tertiary institutions to ensure that students acquire personal computers after paying their entrance fees,” he added.

Mr. Sadat said students who made instant payments would enjoy five to 15 per cent discount on their purchases as well as prompt after sales services.
