Thirteen Districts in the Eastern Region have received over 2,000 pieces of RLG laptop computers for distribution to Information Communication Technology (ICT) Coordinators in Senior High Schools (SHS), to aid the teaching and learning of ICT.
The laptops with a specialized programme of uniformed methodology for the teaching of ICT in the whole country, were handed over to the Eastern Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Ms Mavis Frimpong, the Eastern Regional Minister, who handed over the laptops said they were the third in the series of donations meant to scale-up students’ knowledge in ICT.
According to the Minister, so far, over 4,000 laptops had been received by the Regional Directorate of Education to be distributed to all the 26 administrative Districts in the Region to ensure that every ICT coordinator in the SHS had access to a laptop.
She urged the Director of Education to make sure that the recipients used them solely for the intended purpose to enable every child in the Region, irrespective of their background, to secure a pass in ICT, now an examinable subject at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Mrs Rosetta Addison-Sackey, the Eastern Regional Director of Education said all beneficiary ICT Coordinators have received training in the effective teaching and learning of computer skills.
She reminded beneficiaries that the computers were not their personal properties but belonged to the schools where they were working and cautioned them not to take them along when going on transfer or on retirement.
The Districts that received the laptops include Yilo, Lower and Upper Manya Krobo, Akuapem North and South, Fanteakwa, Birim North, Kwahu-West, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, East Akim and New Juaben.
