Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu says the inability of firemen to rapidly access the Job 600 building, to prevent fire that broke out on the floor from spreading to other offices should not be blamed on structural defect.
There was a fire outbreak on 10th floor of the Job 600 building Tuesday, July 18, 2017.
However, firefighters had challenges accessing the building due to the height of the fire tenders. They had to go in through the back of the building to enable them extinguish the fire.
Some individuals are of the view that the challenge could be due to the architectural flaws in the design of the building.
But according to the Majority Leader, because the Job 600 building is an ancient one which has been rehabilitated for the use of parliament, it has in one way or the other, become ‘outmoded’ making it difficult for a new invention such as a high-rise fire tender to enter the forecourt of the facility.
“This structure has been here since time immemorial, you know. It is a colonial edifice and this tube was there so I will not blame it on structural defects. It is an old building which was rehabilitated and repurposed for the use of parliament,” he argued.
