Dr Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Upper West Regional Minister, said on Friday that he would not be an arm-chair minister whose duties would be limited to signing documents.
He said he would want to work hard to reflect the good image of the National Democratic Congress and the President.
Dr Nsoh was addressing workers of the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District Assembly as part of a working visit to find out challenges facing the workers and constraints of the district to assist in resolving them.
He urged the assemblies to partner the Regional Coordinating Council, the Regional Minister and President John Dramani Mahama to enhance the rapid development of the communities.
The regional minister appealed to them to improve their supervisory and monitoring roles, especially on government projects, to ensure quality work at all levels.
Dr Nsoh advised district assemblies to keep a register of all their projects and assets to ensure their proper supervision, utilization and protection.
He warned that henceforth, no assembly should use money from the District Assembly Common Fund to pay its members as sitting allowances.
He said the fund was meant for the implementation of important and critical development projects in the communities.
Dr Nsoh commended workers for working hard under difficult conditions, reminding them that the district was still on its “teething stages” and all should sacrifice for its development.
He appealed to heads of government departments and agencies to involve the people in whatever they did to enable them to benefit from the programmes they undertook.
“Listen to them and understand their peculiar challenges and factor them in the implementation of government’s policies and programmes.
“The proper management of the people will relate to the proper management of resources,” he said.
He urged heads of government institutions to take charge of the implementation of government policies and programmes and co-operate with other workers for maximum utilization of resources to achieve more for the district.
Mr Abdul Sallam Kadiri, Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District Coordinating Director, mentioned inadequate residential and office accommodation, lack of electricity and logistics as some of the challenges facing the district.
