I will not remove my posters on government vehicles – Sunyani MCE

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Sunyani and Parliamentary candidate for Sunyani East, Kwasi Oppong Ababio has stated categorically that he will not remove his posters embossed on government official vehicles.

According to him, so far as he has not been booted out of office as the MCE, he has every right to use the official vehicles.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Sunyani East has received backlash from residents of Sunyani and a section of assembly members for embossing his posters on vehicles used for official duties at the assembly.

They believe he is abusing incumbency and that the use of the vehicle amounts to partisan politics.

The vehicle embossed with his posters spotted in some towns and villages in Sunyani has the registration number GV 271-14.

But admitting this on Abusua Nkommo on Abusua fm hosted by Kwame Adinkrah, the MCE said he should rather be praised.

He argued that he does not use the vehicle during his campaign tours.

‘It’s true my posters are embossed on Nissan patrol, as far as am still the MCE, and have not been booted out, I have every right to use the car, this is not the first time such a thing has happened, apart from that I don’t use the vehicle on my campaign tours. It’s your opinion that I remove the posters, everything that you do, people will have something to say, people will make noise about everything you do, why didn’t they say that I use my own cars on my campaign tours and that he (I) doesn’t use the car for his campaign tours. It’s not abuse of incumbency. Why don’t they praise me on that. People should rather shower praises on me. I am the incumbent so my posters will not be removed,’ he asserted.

The MCE for Sunyani indicated that he will prevent his coordinator from acting same because he is more powerful than him.

‘I am the overseer of the assembly my posters will surely be embossed on the vehicle, a coordinator under my jurisdiction cannot do same, because power supersedes other, if you are a politician, it doesn’t mean you don’t have any right at all,‘ he said.

The NDC parliamentary hopeful said he will win the ‘seat hands down’.
