Accra, March 19, GNA- Ex-Corporal Joseph Yaw Boateng, formerly with the Military Intelligence (MI) on Thursday told the National Reconciliation Commission (NRC) that he was beaten and imprisoned for over a year when he reported at the Michel Camp on February 15, 1982 after the 31st December Coup.
He said he was first taken to the Recce Regiment and then to the Usher Fort where one C.C. Addae also known as “Sunyani J. J.” severely beat him.
” I have a waist problem as a result of the soldier using the butt of the gun to hit my waist.”
Ex-Cop Boateng said he was not given any medical attention, adding that he stayed in prison until May 5, 1983 when he was released. The Witness said he went back to the office but was asked to go home because the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) Government could no longer work with me.
He said he worked for almost six years and was paid only 12,000 cedis when he was discharged from the army.
Ex-Cop Boateng appealed to the NRC to recommend for him to get his pension since he was only 30 years old when he was discharged.
