I used my UN earnings to finance NPP – Hackman

Former Interior Minister Hackman Owusu- Agyemang has revealed that he used his personal resources garnered from his long years of service with the United Nations (UN) to finance his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, after serving the UN and other international institutions for a while, he decided to come home and serve the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition because he believed there was the need for change in Ghana.

“After a while, I told the UN that I needed my benefits by way of pension and others; so they gave all to me and I brought it home to help the NPP.

“In fact I used my personal property as a guarantee for the party’s headquarters and later on bought it at a rather discounted rate from my own cousin,” the former foreign affairs minister told Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday.

He, nonetheless, admitted that he is worried over current developments in the party.

In his view, although the NPP have proven to be better managers of the economy, it appears they are not good at winning elections.

He described as unfortunate the ongoing discussions of the party’s financial status in the media.
