I thought KABA was very hostile towards me – Afoko

Whereas many have described their first encounter with the late radio journalist Kwadwo Asare Baffuor Acheampong (KABA) as delightful, suspended National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Paul Afoko, says his first meeting with the presenter was ‘hostile’.

Paul Afoko, recounting his first experience with KABA at Adom fm, said the questions posed at him by the ‘Ekosii Sen’ show host were quite ‘unfriendly’ and ‘aggressive’, creating the impression that he (KABA) disliked him (Afoko).

“The first time I met KABA was in this building… In that interview I thought he was a very hostile man. I thought he didn’t like me.”

He however realized that in reality, KABA was an unbiased presenter who pushed for the truth from guests who appeared on his show, this was after he listened to a second guest; Nana Akomea’s interaction with him that same day.

Afoko confessed that he was amazed at the way KABA still kept his composure with Akomea and put him through the same drill as he did with him (Afoko). The Suspended NPP Chair did not hesitate to add that KABA gained his respect at that moment because he came to a realization that the anti-corruption activist was only doing a “very balanced and incisive job.”

“Immediately I was done with my interview the next person was Hon Nana Akomea. As I listened to the interview, I noticed that I was not the only one who he asked such questions. It was at that moment that my respect for him (KABA) increased.”

Paul Afoko urged the Ghanaian media and aspiring young journalists particularly, to learn from him.

Paul Afoko has joined in the trail of persons pouring out tributes for the deceased ace broadcaster, who passed away few days ago. He said the late KABA was a kind man who loved people and who will reach out to people who are distressed on any matter.

KABA, passed away early Saturday morning at the Korle Bu teaching hospital after a short illness.

He was 37 and left behind a wife and a seven-month old baby girl.
