Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito says he is relieved and satisfied after his side finally returned to winning ways with a dramatic late victory over Young Apostles at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Kotoko, who had gone two matches without a win, secured a vital 2–1 result thanks to a stoppage-time penalty calmly converted by skipper Samba O’Niel. The Porcupine Warriors dominated large stretches of the game but were left frustrated by missed chances.
Zito admitted his side failed to make the most of their opportunities but praised the players for pushing until the very end.
“So now when you go to the field, it is the ability and capability of the players; I will tell you when the goalkeeper goes to the left, try right,” he said, reflecting on the team’s decision-making in front of goal.
“I think we were troubled. I think they should back up. This is what happened on the field. I was talking, but at the end of the day, I am happy that we have won.”
The win, secured six minutes into stoppage time, lifts Kotoko to fifth place on the Ghana Premier League table, just two points behind leaders Medeama, with a game in hand.
Zito’s men next face Samartex as they look to build momentum and climb further up the standings.
