I still speak for the EC – Owusu Parry

Former Acting Director of Public Affairs of the Electoral Commission and currently Director of Administration, Christian Owusu Parry has affirmed that he still speaks on behalf of the Commission till a new Director of Public Relations is found.

The EC recently reassigned its acting Director of Public Relations, Christian Owusu Parry and his principal PR officer, Sylvia Annor . Owusu Parry was moved to the administration department of the commission whilst Sylvia Annor was moved to take care of protocol.

It is unclear why the changes were made, however; the EC has declared the position of head of public relations and communications vacant.

Reports from the grapevine indicated that Mr. Parry had been bashed by the commission for some misinformation on the EC’s controversial 18-member Election Steering Committee.

The Commission had a tough time explaining to Ghanaians that it had not dissolved the committee after information went out to suggest that it had been dissolved.

On Thursday this week, Pro –NPP Newspaper, the Statesman had on its front page a story indicating the purported appointment of one James Afedo, a former BBC correspondent as the new EC PRO.

The statesman newspaper report also tagged James Afedo as a Mahama boy because of his stint with the Daily Express Newspaper, a paper owned and once edited by Stan Dogbe, former Head of the Flagstaff House Communication Bureau.

But Speaking in an interview with Ekourba Gyasi, host of Top Fm’s morning show on Friday, Mr. Owusu Parry said no such appointment has been made and that he still speaks on behalf of the EC and will continue to do so till a new appointment is made.
