A former National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme and leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Kwame Amoako Tuffour has given chilly details of how he risked financing the party in the run-up to the 2016 polls.
He disclosed to Kwame Adinkra on Abusua Nkomo that it became imperative he had to sell his houses to support the party win the crucial election.
Many have always asked how political parties raise money to fund their activities, especially during general elections.
This has been the worry of almost everyone in the country since there is the fear that, politicians have been embezzling the tax payer’s money to finance their activities.
Around the world, there are demands by the citizenry that political parties clearly state their source of funding but this demand is far from cry.
However, the politician and Board Member of the Youth Entrepreneurial Agency (YEA), Dr Amoako Tuffour explained that his motivation for taking the risk was to make sure his party came to power.
In responding to questions on how he could help the youth in Ghana, get employment, and be innovative enough in creating jobs for themselves, Dr Amoako Tuffour responded: “I have promised myself…….. there is an initiative I have for youth which I presented all the needed proposals to the central government. However, if I have a house which needs to be sold to help the youths just like I did by selling some of my houses to support my party in the just ended general elections, why not”.
“I had to sacrifice for the party”, he stressed.
He also hinted that, he has plans to help most youth of Ghana enter into entrepreneurship indicating that mechanisms are already available for that course.
