I pray no “mafia” hinders my parliamentary ambition – Kofi Adams

Suspended Deputy General Secretary of National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has prayed that he hopes his ambition to represent the people of Buem on the ticket of the party would not be stalled by hidden ‘mafias’ in the party.

The Buem seat became vacant following the death of Henry Ford Kamel, and the Electoral Commission of Ghana has set February 26 to hold a by-election in the electoral area.

On the blind side, snippets of reports picked up from other media outlets have it that the General Secretary for the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has declared that because Kofi Adams is on “suspension”, he would not be allowed to run on the ticket of the party to live up to his dream of becoming a member of parliament.

But in a direct response to Asiedu Nketia’s mission on Okay FM, Mr. Adams stated that the mere fact “suspension doesn’t exist in the head of a person”, he is convinced that things would work better on his side because no “constitutional and legal decision” has been taken to exempt him from nurturing his parliamentary ambition.

“I have filed all the necessary papers and I believe that everything would go on as planned…I am surprised that the General Secretary would say that I am on suspension, suspension with what letter or communication, which group met to suspend me? It should be an executive decision”, he asked.

The spokesperson to ex-president Rawlings, maintained in his submission that with or without the presence a “mafia”, he is sure the laid down laws in the party would favour him.
