I lost my husband when I lost my breast – Cancer survivor

Breast cancer survivor, Raheema Quaye, has disclosed her husband kicked her and their children out of their matrimonial home after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Narrating the incident to Morning Starr host, Francis Abban, Mrs. Quaye said she had grown up not knowing anything about the dreaded disease but got alarmed one day when she felt a lump in her breast while bathing.

After her discovery, she spoke to a sister of her’s who recommended a herbalist whom she believed could help because he had helped her friend in the past of a similar disease. She only got to know the lump in her breast was cancer after she benefited from a free screening exercise.

“My husband told me and our three children to pack out because he thought Breast Cancer was contagious when I informed him about it. I packed out and informed my relatives about it but at a point they also abandoned me on reasons that they were going to get infected as well, and even brainwashed my own children to abandon me.

“My children were also brainwashed by some relatives and were told not to get close to me else they will suffer from breast cancer,” she recounted.

Her difficult situation got her broke noting “I had to sell all my properties just to get money for treatment”.

However, help came through Breast Care International (BCI), a breast cancer based NGO which supported her until she recovered.
