I like Zanetor, but she must not win – Akufo-Addo

The influx of fresh and young faces into Ghana’s politics, especially Dr Zanetor Rawlings has thrilled opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer has described the phenomenon as“welcoming” news since it creates a replacement buffer for the veterans in Ghana politics.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana show on Tuesday, Akufo-Addo was convinced Rawlings’ daughter, who is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle will succeed in her chosen profession.

However, the former foreign affairs minister is hoping she loses in her parliamentary bid to the NPP candidate in the constituency.

“She [Zanetor] comes from a powerful background,” Nana Addo told host Paul Adom Otchere.

“I don’t want her to win, nevertheless she is welcome to politics,” the three-time flagbearer of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition opined.

Nana Addo noted: “For me if a young person like Zanetor takes an interest in politics, she’s very welcome. I welcome her to the political scene. It’s always good to see young people get involved in this political process.”

Dr Rawlings beat NDC stalwart Nii Armah Ashietey during the ruling party’s parliamentary primaries.
